COVID UPDATE: County has another record-breaking day of cases on Friday

COVID update from MIlam County Judge Steve Young from Saturday, Dec. 12, 2020:

Today was another heavy day of infections in our County. We have thirty new positive cases to report: 11 new PCR cases and 19 antigen (probable) cases.

We now have another new record142 active cases in Milam County; 12 more than just yesterday.

We tested 29 individuals in Buckholts on Friday with six positive results.

In the last 19 days of testing, we have tested 730 individuals in Milam County with 193 positive results with a positivity rate of 26 percent.

Today, Dec. 14, there will be testing in Rockdale at the former Rockdale Hospital. If you are a Milam County resident with COVID symptoms we are happy to provide a free COVID antigen test.

Thanks to our great team of testers who are putting their lives on the line so we can provide testing!

A special thanks to your fine County Commissioners, the Mayors and City Council members of each city of the County for cooperating to pool their resources to provide this much needed testing program.

Milam County is prepared to administer the vaccine to any Milam County resident, free of charge, as soon as we get it.

Today the FDA approved the Pfizer vaccine, but we do not know when we will get it in Milam County.  The State will provide the vaccine to the County and we will administer the vaccine to any Milam County resident.  In fact, we have already partnered with Texas A&M Health Science to help administer the vaccine.

We want everyone to get vaccinated to stop the destruction this virus is causing.
