Commissioners decide to keep meetings at courthouse

County Commissioners took care of several items during their regular meeting on Jan. 23.

Commissioners approved the annual stipends for the volunteer fire departments in Cameron, Rockdale, Milano, Minerva, Buckholts, Burlington, Gause, Thorndale, and Bartlett as per the budget allotment.

Commissioners Court meetings will also continue to take place in the Milam County Courthouse on the second and fourth Monday at 10 a.m. Last meeting they discussed moving the meetings to the County Annex.

Precinct 2 Commissioner James Denman was chosen as the court representative to the Sick Leave Pool.

The Court elected to leave things as they are with regard to uniformed branding of county vehicles and equipment. Currently, each commissioner already has branding and identification markings for such things and they will continue to maintain those as they see fit.

The Court also decided to hold a workshop in order to create a standardized permit application process for county road entrances/culverts. Milam County is currently the only county in Central Texas without such a process and County Judge Bill Whitmire stressed the safety factor and growth of the county as reasons to get this particular item moving forward.

The Commissioners will use the workshop to craft a better policy before bringing it to court again.

Commissioners also approved a lease agreement at $250 per month from Elbert Svetlik to stockpile materials and an agreement for a health insurance add on with TexHealth Central Texas.

Video Magistration purchases for Justices of the Peace in Precincts 1 and 2 were approved at a cost of $150 per month per judge. The funds for the Video Magistration software will come out of the Tech Funds for Justice Courts.

Commissioners also approved the purchase of gravel from Albert Horelica, an agreement for a refrigerated trailer to house dead bodies during an emergency, certificates of completion for the County Clerk and District Clerk, and the racial profiling report.
