City to look at letting new mayor take office Monday night

The City of Cameron will hold a special telecommunications meeting of the city council to consider canceling the mayor's race and allowing unopposed Mayor Elect Bill Harris to take office.

Other city council seats will have an election in July or November depending on Governor Abbott’s decision.

Mayor Connie Anderle supports the transfer of leadership saying.

"This is the way it was supposed to be before the Coronavirus changed so many things," she said. "May is an opportune time to take office allowing the newly elected members time to get settled into their positions, take the open meetings act training and newly elected officials trainings before starting budget preparations.”

Budget workshops and city department tours were scheduled to begin in May and June.
“Mayor Elect Bill Harris will be in place and ready to start the utmost important project of planning the budget for the city," said Anderle.

The council meeting will take place on Monday, April 27, beginning at 5:30 p.m. you can participate by calling 1-866-899-4679 or dialing into Go To Meeting with number 527911509.
