Charges dismissed against former CPD Officer

Charges have been dismissed against former Cameron Police officer, James Sherer.

Sherer had been arrested and indicted on a charge of tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony last year.

According to court records, charges were dismissed due to insufficient evidence. Sherer can now have his law enforcement license reinstated and will have to have his record expunged.

According to the indictment,  then Cameron Police Sergeant James Sherer destroyed or concealed drugs suspected to be MDMA, a synthetic drug known by the street name Ecstasy or Molly.

The indictment stated that destruction occurred on May 11, 2022, when Sherer knew an investigation or official proceeding was pending or in progress.

The case was directly filed and an officer testified before the Grand Jury. No details on the matter were given at the time the indictment came down.

Sherer had served with Cameron PD over five years on the force.
