BBQ Shootout and Cameron FunFest reset for this weekend

The Cameron FunFest and BBQ Shootout has been reset for next weekend, Aug. 16-17, after being rained out last May.

The event will happen at Ledbetter Park. So come out for a good time.

Entertainment has been announced for Friday night. Texas Country Artist Brice Daniels will hit the stage in the cook-off area around 9 p.m.

The event is in its fifth year and there are already 60 cookers signed up. Organizer Daniel Willie said he expects as many as 70 teams for the weekend.

Cook-off events will begin Friday night with events for margaritas, salsa, and chili. There will be live music throughout the cook-off areas and a bounce house area with inflatables for the kids to enjoy, along with arts and crafts. The bounce houses will open at 6 p.m. Friday night.

At 9 a.m. a free Kid Fish will be offered in Ledbetter Lake by the Texas Parks and Wildlife. Kids can enjoy fishing with poles and bait provided. That will last all morning.

There will also be arts and crafts vendors and food vendors beginning at 9 a.m. A horseshoe and washer tournament will be held in the afternoon with awards for the BBQ Cook-off at 5:30 p.m.

There will be over $5,000 in prizes for the cook-off. Categories include ribs, chicken, brisket and an exotic category.

Willie said the cook-off is one of the biggest in Central Texas. The winner gets an automatic bid to the Kansas City Royal in October. The largest cook-off in the country. The top three finishers will get bids to the National Championship Cookoff in Meridian in October.
