4th of July Celebration planned for downtown Cameron

Milam County 4th of July Celebration will kick off on the square in downtown Cameron at 4 p.m. on July 4. Join with your family and friends to celebrate Independence Day in America.

Activities for the event begin at 4 p.m. with a Kids Zone with games sponsored by local businesses. Some games include a water slide, balloon toss, duck pond, and more. Kids may play games in the Kid Zone all day with a $5 wristband purchase.

Citizens National Bank will be on hand with hot dogs, and Central Ave Bistro will have lemonade in the Kid Zones for kids only. Edward D. Jones is sponsoring the Water Slide. Oncor and Atmos Energy will have games, and Masters Martial Arts will be there with demonstrations. Milam County AgriLife will have a duck pond and more. Businesses still have time to sign up for additional activities.

A dunking booth will be on hand with an opportunity to dunk local personalities, a great way to cool off. So, line up for fun. Have someone who you would like to see dunked contact the Cameron Chamber.

Music from local DJs and the Community Concert Band will be in the square. In addition, Hot Corners, Jazzy J’s Southern Way food trucks, Kona Ice, Triple C Winery, En Gedi Vineyards, 5D Travel Tavern, and more will be in the square.

A Homemade Ice Cream contest will be held at Railfan on Main 105 E. Main (formerly Bea’s Kitchen). The First Baptist Church Ladies must receive your entry by 5:30 p.m. on July 4. There are two categories, Traditional Ice Cream Flavors and Creative Ice Cream Flavors. Prices will be awarded for the top two in each category. The winner’s ice cream will be auctioned off to the highest bidder.

There will also be a Margarita Contest at Railfan on Main, 206 S Central (formerly MHMR). The entry deadline is 6:30 p.m. Contact the Cameron Chamber for details.

A map and schedule of events will appear in next week’s Cameron Herald and Rockdale Reporter.

Bring your lawn chairs and towels for the kids and enjoy the fun. Fireworks will start at dark. Sponsors include Classic Bank, Cameron Chamber of Commerce, Rockdale Chamber of Commerce and Witte Properties.
