YHS Culinary Arts program to host Senior Citizen Luncheon

The Yoe High culinary arts students have been working hard and will share some tasty treats with the community coming up.

The program invites all senior citizens in the community to attend their first-ever Senior Citizen Luncheon on Wednesday, March 6, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The luncheon will be free to anyone interested. You are asked to register online so they know how many guest to prepare for.

The menu will be meatloaf, mashed potatoes, green beans, cake and iced tea.

The culinary program at Yoe High is about four years old and offers four main courses to students: intro to culinary arts, second advance, third advance and food science.

Instructor Colleen Kovar said students can gain several certifications including a food handler’s certification and a manager’s certification.

There are currently about 95 students enrolled in the culinary arts program at Yoe High.

Students just finished a kolache sale last week and also cater for the CISD board meeting and other administrative luncheons throughout the year.

Anyone wishing to register for the Senior Citizen Luncheon can visit https://forms.gle/cKLENJd8vVDW6QS88 or email CTE Coordinator Kenny Driska at kdriska@cameronisd.net to RSVP.

All guests are asked to enter through the Culinary Arts entrance from the parking lot on N. Lee Street, that is the former Ben Milam Elementary cafeteria. The venue is wheelchair accessible.
