WSCT and Cameron ISD partner to help students soar to success

The Education Outreach Program (SOAR), administered by Workforce Solutions of Central Texas, and its education partner Cameron Independent School District, are celebrating an incredible milestone: engaging more than 750 students in career development and career decision-making.

The SOAR program launched in Cameron ISD during the 2022-2023 school year. Since then, it has engaged 754 students and completed more than 35 workshops addressing career exploration, navigation and preparation.

“The SOAR program has been instrumental in guiding our junior high student’s choices in their High School pursuits. It has given them time, data, and research on careers and employability skills they may be interested in. This has allowed them to pursue an educational pathway through our CTE programs toward that end goal career,” said Kenneth Driska, Director of Career and Technical Education at Cameron ISD.

The SOAR Program is currently operating in 13 school districts in Central Texas. It provides career services to students at public middle and high schools, grades six through twelve, and students receive in-depth education and direction on career choices as well as access to the up-to-date labor market and career data.

Charley Ayres is the Director of Industry/Education Partnerships for Workforce Solutions of Central Texas and oversees the program.

“Cameron ISD understands the importance of providing the resources and guidance to help students be prepared for careers when they graduate. Whether students choose to enter the workforce straight from graduation or work toward a certification or degree, our next generation not only needs to know what occupations are growing, but also what the expectations are for those occupations,” said Ayers.

WSCT and Cameron ISD will continue to inspire, motivate and empower students to reach their maximum potential and be workforce ready.
