Marek-Burns-Laywell offering pre-planning for families

Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron is offering several new options for families to prepare for the future.

They have welcomed Susan Hendrickson on as a pre-planning specialist. She will help area families to plan and prepare ahead of time for an event everyone will face one day.

Hendrickson has been in the funeral home industry for a little over 18 years. She has lived in Central Texas since 2012. She is currently working in Cameron and is said she is honored to be a part of such a wonderful team at Marek-Burns-Laywell.

“A pre-planning specialist helps families to plan and prepare ahead of time for an event that we all face one day by getting a file set up at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home with not only their wishes and whay type of services they are wanting, but also with historical information needed to file for death certificates, social security and for veterans the paperwork needed for the benefits they are entitled to,” Hendrickson said.

She said pre-planning takes the emotional and financial burden off of loved ones.

“It eliminates any confusion,” she said. “Not all family members may agree on the type of funeral services to have, which only adds more tension to an already emotional situation.”

She said that pre-planning is financially beneficial because it locks in and freezes costs.

“Unfortunately funeral costs go up just like everything else,” she said. “So you can freeze that cost for something that might not happen for several years. It also gives you piece of mind to know that your wishes are carried out the way you want.”

Anyone interested in pre-planning can call the funeral home to schedule an appointment. They will get a file set up for you with all the vital information needed. There will then be a discussion about the type of funeral service you are wanting and what that cost would look like and then go over payment options.

Marek-Burns-Laywell also has a community awareness program that is designed to reach a broader audience. They host pre-planning events and are available to speak to any groups that may want to host them.

The funeral home also offers Circle of Friends – a digital service that enables families to find support throughout the grieving process along with family estate planning for up to a year after the death of a loved one.
