Early voting continues across Milam County

Early voting continues this week for the May 6 election.

On the first day of early voting 127 ballots were cast, with nearly half of them in Rockdale. The second day saw 146 total voters with about half of those in Rockdale. 

Milam County voters will decide on a county-wide referendum regarding the creation of an Emergency Services District. If approved, it would create a new taxing entity in the county to help pay for ambulance services here. 

Also on the ballot will be a race for Cameron City Council At-Large between Cliff Cryer and Lekeithia “KeKe” Sims. 

Thorndale ISD voters will choose two trustees from among Hector Hernandez, Kimberly Biar, and Kimberly McCoy Jordan. Thorndale voters will also cast a ballot for Mayor between George Galbreath Jr. and Gerald Niemtschk. 

Milano ISD voters will choose two trustees from among Neile Briden, Carlos Campos, Gary Steinbecker, Blake DeBault, and Odes Foster Jr. 

In Rockdale, there is a race for East Ward on City Council between Dave Melton and Brittany Bell. 

There are also a pair of school bond elections up for approval. Rockdale ISD is seeking a $30 million bond and Lexington ISD is seeking a $36 million bond. 

During Early Voting, voters can cast a ballot at the Milam County Clerk’s Office in the Milam County Annex, at Buckholts Community Center, the Rockdale American Legion, the former Rockdale hospital, and Thorndale Veterans Memorial Hall. 

In the Clerk’s Office, voting will be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday and May 2. At all other locations, voting will take place 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday and May 2. All locations will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, May 1. 

Election Day voting will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on May 6 at the Milam County Clerk’s Office, Cameron Housing Authority, Buckholts Community Center, Rockdale American Legion, Thorndale Veterans Memorial Hall, Milano Fire Station, and Gause Fire Station.
