Contractor indicted for scamming Cameron woman

A former Cameron contractor has been indicted after scamming a local woman last year.

On June 15, Brendan Neal Myers, 25, formerly of Cameron, was indicted for  Second Degree Felony, Theft $30-$150K from Elderly and two counts of Theft $2,500-$30K.

The Milam County District Attorney’s Office was working with the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Department warrant service to have Myers arrested in Wichita, Kansas.  Captain Mark Pierce advised our office yesterday that his deputies received information that Myers had returned to Texas and was in the Poolville area.

The DA’s Office said that upon contact from their office, Parker County Sheriff Russ Authier, immediately sent deputies to the location where they made contact with members of Brendan Myers’ family. They were advised to have Myers turn himself in immediately or they would return to execute the warrant when Myers returned to the home.

Brendan Myers turned himself in to the Milam County Sheriff’s Department about 6:30 a.m. on June 7.

“Our office appreciates the collaborative efforts of the Sedgwick County Kansas Sheriff’s Department, the Parker County Texas Sheriff’s Department and the Texas Rangers for their assistance leading to the arrest of Brendan Myers,” Milam County DA Bill Torrey said.

The indictments stem from Myers scamming 80-year-old Diane Yates of Cameron out of $60,000 last year. He was paid for work on her home that he never completed, leaving the home in a near unlivable condition.

Meanwhile, a group of citizens is teaming up with Odes Foster Jr. and his wife Tina and T&O Services of Milano to help Yates. The group will have an organizational meeting 2 p.m. Sunday, July 16, at Cameron Volunteer Fire Department in order to get the ball moving on helping Yates.

Anyone wishing to make monetary donations can do so to an account at Citizens National Bank under the Diane Yates Benefit Account, care of Odes Foster, Jr. and Tina Foster. Those wishing to assist with labor or services should attend the July 16 meeting or call (251) 222-7235.
