Cameron girl, 9, gets birthday parade surprise

It was a very surprising birthday for one Cameron 9-year-old on March 30.

With the current Shelter in Place order across the county Maddie Basonic thought she wouldn’t be able to celebrate with friends and family, but she got to see them thanks to a surprise.

Friends and family gathered on Monday night at 6 p.m. to give Maddie a parade down the street in front of her house.

“It was very surprising,” she said. “I was excited to see the faces that I thought I wasn’t going to get to see for a very long time.”

About 14 vehicles of friends and family participated in the parade.

Maddie’s parents told her about the surprise about two minutes before it took place. 

Her parents said this was a way to give her a good birthday while still maintaining social distancing protocols during this time.

Maddie said this will definitely be a memorable birthday.

She is the daughter of David and Amber Basonic.
