Judge: We urge everyone to get vaccinated

On Thursday, Jan. 28, we will administer 300 first round shots at the former hospital in Cameron.

The first 300 individuals on our waiting list will be contacted by phone and told of their appointment time for the shot. If you are called, please download the consent forms from our website and complete them prior to arrival at the clinic as this will save a lot of time: http://www.milamcounty.net/page/milam COVID-19 and download the three required consent forms; COVID-19 consent form, Adult Immtrac consent for and Immtrac 3 Immunization Registry Retention Consent form.  We will have forms available at the clinic.

On Friday, Jan. 29, we will vaccinate about 30 second-round individuals. These are people who received their first shot on or about Dec. 31. As we go forward there will be many other second round clinics. We are confident we will have plenty of second round doses, which are identical to the first-round dose.

We hope to get a larger allotment the week of Feb. 1. We asked for 1,200 doses and Brookshire Brothers has asked for 300. As soon as we know, we will get the word out. We hope to get all these doses we get administered during the week of Feb. 1.

So far, Milam County has administered 700 first-round doses. Brookshire Brothers has administered 300 doses. Healthpoint is in the process of administering its first 100 doses and two of the three nursing homes have been vaccinated. Legacy in Rockdale plans to vaccinate on or about Jan. 28.

Last week we reported six new deaths in Milam County due to the COVID-19 virus bringing the total to 24 deaths since the pandemic started.

This virus does not care about age, race or sex. One may have no symptoms, mild symptoms, be hospitalized and/or die from the virus. We can do something to end this pandemic; get vaccinated!

The drug is safe and 95 percent effective. So please sign up and get vaccinated.  Unless your doctor advises otherwise, everyone in the county should get vaccinated.

To get vaccinated, please call our main number at (254) 697-7000 or email aguillen@gmail.com and we will put you on a waiting list. When your turn arrives, we will call and schedule your appointment.

We thank all of the many volunteers and others within our county who are volunteering their time and working long hours to provide this most important vaccination. We thank each and every citizen for their continued support. Get vaccinated!
