JUDGE: Now is the time to get vaccinated in Milam County

If you have been thinking about getting vaccinated, now is the time to get on the list.  This week, we plan to vaccinate about 1,100 individuals, which may deplete our waiting list. This means you can get a shot as early as next Tuesday, if you act now.

As of Tuesday, March 16, about 4,226 Milam County residents have been vaccinated; 2,224 have had both shots, but there are over 19,689 individuals in the county over the age of 16. Therefore, we need to get a lot more people vaccinated.

The following groups are eligible to get on the waiting list:

1A - Health care workers and residents at long term health care facilities;

1B - Those over 65 or those 16-65 with an underlying health condition, including cancer; chronic kidney disease; COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease); Down Syndrome; heart conditions, such as heart failure, coronary artery disease, or cardiomyopathies; organ transplantation; obesity; pregnancy; sickle cell disease; and Type 2 diabetes

1C - Those between the ages of 50-64; ands chool and licensed childcare personnel, including those who work in pre-primary, primary, and secondary schools; Head Start and Early Head Start programs (including teachers, staff, and bus drivers); and those who work as or for licensed childcare providers, including center-based and family care providers.

To get on the list call (254) 697-7000 or email Amy Guillen at aguillen@milamcounty.net. We have several people available to take your call and/or respond to your email. You will need to provide your name, phone number and a good email address. When it is your turn to get vaccinated, we will give you a call to advise of the time and place.

I am proud to report that we performed our first vaccination on Dec. 30, 2020, and 80 days later Milam County will have vaccinated about 4,000 individuals! At one point we had almost 4,000 individuals on a waiting list.

Thanks to our fine Medical Department and the many, many wonderful volunteers we have made huge gains on the vaccination front. Remember, the more that get vaccinated, the safer we will all be and the sooner we can get back to normal. Don’t delay; call and get on the list today.
