JUDGE: It is time for Milam County to come together

We have all been through a very trying year. Some have been very ill, some have lost family members and/or friends, some have been quarantined and some have lost their job. Schools and businesses have closed and we don’t socialize like we used to.  In short, we are living amid a pandemic and today the number of infections and deaths remain off the charts.

Now is the time for us all to unite! Now is the time for us to work together towards a common goal to protect each other. Now is the time for every Milam County citizen to resolve to wear a mask, keep our distance and avoid large gatherings. Wearing a mask protects the other person and the person wearing the mask. Keeping at least six feet away helps prevent the virus from reaching your nose, mouth, ears and eyes. Rest assured that when you are in a large crowd, someone there has the virus. That someone may be totally asymptomatic, but unknowingly spreading the virus.

There is much hope for the future! Vaccines are on the way that are 90-95 percent effective. The vaccine should be available in Milam County during the first quarter 2021.  We plan to administer the vaccine to any Milam County resident, free of charge. This will eventually bring this pandemic to an end and we can get back to normal.

Until this happens, let us all come together for our mutual safety and protection. Let’s protect ourselves and each other by doing the simple things that are proven to slow the spread.  This is not going to last forever and by taking such simple steps now we can prevent much misery and despair!
