JUDGE: Exercise your right to vote in the primary elections

We have some very important state and local elections starting next month. In fact, in less than one month early voting begins on Feb. 14, 2022, and election day is March 1, 2022.

Every vote is important and your right to vote is critical to our democratic process.  Please be informed and vote.

There are some important deadlines coming up soon as follows:

1. January 31, 2022, is the last day to register to vote. To register go by or contact the Milam County Clerk’s office located at 107 W. Main, Cameron.  One may call (254) 697-7000 to get information.  One may also go online at Texas.gov to register to vote.  

2. Voting by Mail – mail ballots are available to the following:

a. You will be away from your county on Election Day and during early voting;

b. You are sick or disabled;

c. You are 65 years of age or older on Election Day; or

d. You are confined in jail, but eligible to vote.

Remember, mail ballots must be received by the County Clerk’s office by 5 p.m. on Feb. 18, 2022. To receive a mail ballot one may contact the County Clerk’s office at (254) 697-7000 or simply go online at Texas.gov and fill out an application to receive a mail ballot.

3. Early Voting: Early voting will begin in the County on Monday, Feb. 14, 2022, and will run through Feb. 25, 2022. Early voting will also be held on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2022.  Early voting will be held at Buckholts, Cameron, Rockdale and Thorndale.  The actual locations are being finalized for each location.

4. Election Day is March 1, 2022: Voting will be conducted at Buckholts, Cameron, Gause, Milano, Rockdale and Thorndale.  The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

We have several contested elections that are important to Milam County. For example, Milam County is losing our very fine long time State Representative, Terry Wilson, as Milam County has been placed in a new District. There are several candidates running for the position. In Milam County there are contested elections for County Judge, Precinct 2 and Precinct 4 Commissioners as incumbents Donald Shuffield and Jeff Muegge are retiring at the end of their respective terms.

Make your voice heard!  Take advantage of the voting opportunity that best suits your situation and vote.  We have a great County Clerk and staff that are ready to assist you in any way they can to make sure your right to vote is not squandered.  Educate, inform yourself and vote.
