JUDGE: Cutoff extended for FEMA individual assistance

Extension for FEMA Individual Assistance Claims

FEMA has extended the cutoff for filing an individual assistance claim until May 20, 2021. If you are a Milam County homeowner or a Milam County renter with property damage due to the freeze in February 2021, you now have until May 20, 2021, to file a claim with FEMA. There are three simple steps: 1. Document the loss with photos and receipts; 2. File a claim with your insurance; 3. Contact FEMA by calling 800-621-3362 or go online at: https://www.disasterassistance.gov/.  Remember Milam County was one of 125 Texas Counties that are eligible to file an IA claim, so if you have damage, make the claim.

Milam County has now

administered almost 8,000 shots

We estimate that about 30 percent of the county has had at least one shot and about 15 percent of the county is fully vaccinated. All of our shots have been Moderna or Pfizer. Both are safe, effective and the shot is virtually painless. Call (254) 697-7000 to get on the vaccination list.

On Tuesday, we administered a lot of homebound shots by going to various homes in the County.  On Wednesday, we will administer about 300 second round shots, about 300 second round shots on Thursday, in partnership with our Military friends and a large first round clinic on Friday.  We will take walk ins on Friday. No appointment needed, just come to the former Rockdale Medical Clinic at 1700 Brazos from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and get a shot!

Thanks to our Milam County Medical Department, our Milam County Emergency Management and our many Milam County Heroes; those wonderful angels who put their lives at risk to save ours!  We have truly made a lot of progress – get on board, do your part and get a shot!

Milam County Commissioners Court to Honor McLane

Mr. Drayton McLane was born and raised in Milam County. His family ran a wholesale grocery distribution service in the County and elsewhere.  Mr. McLane went on to run the business and many other enterprises, including the Houston Astros.  However, Mr. McLane has never forgotten his Milam County heritage.  Over the years he has contributed so much to the County, including financial support of our volunteer fire departments, the City of Cameron and most recently donating over 700 boxes of food to the County.  The Court will honor and thank Mr. McLane for the many, many years of inspirational support of Milam County.  Please tune in to our Facebook page, Moving Milam Forward at 10 a.m. Monday, April 26, for the ceremony.

Milam County Girl Scouts

Milam County has a wonderful group of Girl Scouts led by Rachel Owens.  Over the years the Girl Scouts have performed numerous acts of service for the County and they are looking to do more. Now they plan on performing 100 acts of additional service right here in Milam County. This is a free community service; it could be for a church, organization, city, individual or group. If you know of a need in Milam County, please contact Rachel Owens, Milam County Girl Scouts Service Unit Director, via email at captainneo1@yahoo.com or cell at (512) 429-1336.  Thanks to these wonderful young leaders of tomorrow for their commitment to Milam County!
