JUDGE: Bea’s Kitchen to reopen Oct. 24

Bea’s kitchen, which is located at the new Milam County Annex, plans to open on Monday, Oct. 24. The long-awaited vent hood has been installed and new coolers were delivered last week. Congregate meals will be served at the noon hour for $3 per person.

Rene Mueck will run the operation has as she has done for many years.  We thank our partners at Hill County Community Action and the Central Texas Council of Government for helping make this all possible.

Oscar Lopez appointed to Serve as Constable

Longtime peace officer, Oscar Lopez was appointed by the Commissioners Court on Sept. 26, to serve as the Constable in Precinct 1.  The position was vacated earlier in the year by James Pratt.

Charlie West has graciously served in the position without pay since Mr. Pratt’s resignation.

Mr. Lopez is the only person on the November ballot for the position.  His lifetime of peace officer experience makes him the perfect candidate for the position.

Redington to Serve on the Post Oak Savannah

On Sept. 26,  the Commissioners Court appointed John Redington to fill the unexpired term of Director Sidney Youngblood on the Post Oak Savannah Ground Water Conservation District.

John is an attorney, rancher and life long resident of Milam County.  He has served as the Assistant District Attorney for Milam County and currently represents the County in many legal matters as a member of the firm of Allison & Baker.  His experiences will make him an excellent Director for the Board.

Rockdale Old City Cemetery Historical Marker Dedication

Bring a flashlight to the dedication of the long awaited historical marker for Rockdale’s oldest cemetery.  The Milam County Historical Commission applied for and has received a prestigious historical Commission marker for the cemetery.  The public is invited to come out for the ceremony beginning at 6 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 8, on East First Street, Rockdale, Texas for a short tour and a “witching for graves” experience!
