En Gedi Vineyard has successful grape harvest a success

The sun rose Saturday on En Gedi Vineyards in Milam County, and with some excellent cloud coverage to help cool things down, at 7 a.m. the harvest began.

Dragonflies in the thousands were flying around, creating a fairyland atmosphere, beauty, and help with any lurking mosquitoes. The picturesque vines, heavy with Lenoir grapes were a sight to behold. I got to pluck a couple and they were succulent and sweet.

En Gedi Vineyards harvested their Lenoir Grapes this past Saturday, and what a successful day! People from Cameron, Calvert, Houston and other areas joined in the fun and put some ‘sweat equity’ into the next Port Wine production from this harvest!

Family assisted with many other background duties to keep things running smoothly.

Karen and Pat Hale of En Gedi Vineyards have grown grapes and produced award-winning wines for several years!  After Pat gave a blessing of the harvest and thanked all the people who assisted, one of the individuals stated, “and here’s to an awarding-winning port.”

Everyone cheered and said Amen.

It was a true blessing to see all the beautiful individuals braving the heat and cutting the gorgeous clusters of grapes from the vines.  It was an outpouring of love for the Hale’s and probably for wine too.

Karen said, “From putting first plants in the ground and prayers for the new Vineyard to bountiful harvest. We hope you feel the care this family owned, and operated Vineyard puts into our Real Texas Wine!”

After the harvest, the Cameron Chamber of Commerce had a Ribbon Cutting for En Gedi Vineyards.

The Chamber is proud of En Gedi’s membership and for selecting Milam County to plant a vineyard. Karen and Pat spoke about their Vineyard and wine production in Texas during the Cameron Chamber Banquet in May. The Vineyard is located at 6850 FM 979 in Jones Prairie Community.

The people who participated in the harvest were then served lunch at En Gedi’s wine tasting room in Calvert and along with award-winning wines!
