Martha Leola Harlow Bryant

Martha Leola Harlow Bryant passed away with her family at her side on Jan. 15, 2019, in Ogden, Utah. She was born June 18, 1929, in Shreveport, La., to Randall Hough Harlow and Betty Lambert Harlow.

She grew up in Hankamer. Services for Martha H. Bryant were held at the Kathryn W. Green Chapel of Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Cameron, on Saturday, Jan. 19, with Rev. Don Fulton officiating. Burial followed at the Rogers Cemetery, Bell County.

Martha married Raymond Gilbert Bryant Jr. on June 6, 1952, at Freeport. After living in New Orleans, La., for 37 years, they moved to Lubbock in 1994 and Ogden, Utah, in 2010.

Martha graduated from Anahuac High School in Anahuac in 1946 and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Sam Houston State College in Huntsville in 1949.

She earned a Master’s Degree in Special Education from Louisiana State University in New Orleans in 1965 where she was a member of Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society. She taught in the Texas and Louisiana public school systems for 27 years. 

Martha was a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames XVII Century, National Daughters of the American Colonies, Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the Confederacy, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, and First Families of Texas.

Survivors include Raymond, her husband of over 66 years; and two daughters, Dr. Barbara J. Bryant and spouse Lloyd A. Campo Jr. of Galveston, and Debra K. Bryant Crawford of Ogden, Utah. Martha is survived by six grandchildren, Dr. Mindy L. Calandro and spouse Blasie J. Calandro III, Ashley C. Miller and spouse Gregory M. Miller, Emily C. Crawford, Gregory R. Crawford, Mark J. Crawford, and Rachel G. Crawford; and three great-grandchildren, Blaise Joseph Calandro IV, Madison Lane Calandro, and Levi Benjamin Calandro. She was preceded in death by her parents Randall Hough Harlow (1958) and Betty Lambert Harlow (1985); one brother, Thomas Randall Harlow (2000); and one sister, Betty Ann Harlow Engelhardt (2018). In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Raymond and Martha Bryant, Jr. Scholarship Fund, Blinn College Foundation, 902 College Avenue, Brenham, Texas, 77833.
