Margaret Ann Lopez (Tamez) passed away peacefully on April 27th, 2026. Margaret was born on March 14, 1945 in Cameron, Texas to Ysidoro Tamez, II and Maria Garcia Tamez. She was the sixth of ten children.
Margaret attended St. Anthony’s Catholic School and later graduated from Yoe High School, both in Cameron. She was active in the Mexican Patriotic Committee as a choir director. She also attended Temple College.
In 1966, Margaret married Thomas Lopez. Together, they built a life in Rockdale, Texas where they raised their family. She enjoyed dancing and taking road trips.
Margaret was a devoted mother to five children. She is preceded in death by two of her children, as well as her husband, Thomas; parents Ysidoro and Maria Tamez; siblings, Felicitas (Chata) Marin, Reuben Tamez, Herminia (Minnie) Tamez, Daniel (Danny) Tamez and Esperanza (Nena) Moreno.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Melissa (Missy) and Jose Barbosa of Dallas, her sons Terry and Lachelle of Pflugerville and Thadd (Shorty) and his wife Holly of Rockdale; seven grandchildren, Sara Barbosa and Jay Barbosa, Kasey Lopez, Kameron Lopez, Dustin Lopez, Brittany Lopez and Chase Lopez; two great-grandchildren, Yami Lopez and Reilly Lopez.
She is also survived by her sisters Mary Tamez Ruiz of Bryan and Alice Waneck of Cameron; her brother Ysidoro (Jim) Tamez and his wife, Cathy of Garland; along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members across Texas, California, Michigan and Ohio.
Memorial service to be held Saturday, June 13th at 11:00AM at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral home in Cameron, Texas. Private burial to follow.
