J.C. PAYNE

APRIL 24, 1933 - NOV. 14, 2025

J.C. Payne, 92, of San Gabriel, passed away peacefully in his home Friday, Nov. 14. Services will be held Monday, Nov. 24, 1 p.m., at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale followed by burial in the Locklin Cemetery.

J.C. was born April 24, 1933, a child of the dust bowl and the Great Depression, to Jacob Calvin and Lorenia Payne in Harriet, Texas. He graduated from San Angelo High School.

He married Carolyn McDaniel of San Gabriel Sept. 7, 1957. They spent many nights of their sixtyeight years with J.C. playing the piano, while he and Carolyn sang hymns and gospel tunes to the Lord. Most of his adult life he spent in his paving and excavating Construction Company.

In addition to his parents, J.C. was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers. He is survived by two siblings, Shirley and Bonnie.

J.C. is also survived and missed by his wife Carolyn; four children, Michal (Jim), Robby (Connie), Calvin, Shelton (Kimberly); 7 grandchildren, Sarah, Michael, Dawnica, Amber, Miredda, Clarissa, Karmynissa and one great grandchild, Reese.
