Milano ISD completes LED lighting project

Milano ISD recently completed a comprehensive district wide LED lighting project.

The entire district now has LED lighting, creating a superior lighting environment for students and staff on all of their campuses.

The project included 3,500 lights being upgraded from fluorescent to LED.   Because of the energy savings realized by using LED lighting, the project will quickly pay for itself.   In addition, the LED lighting will last 5 times longer than their traditional lighting applications, freeing up staff to tackle other items and save money on replacing lights.  The annual energy cost savings is estimated at over $22,000 per year.

Milano ISD had a forward-thinking mindset when considering the needs of the community and school, as the lighting also provides brighter entrances and exits around the buildings and superior lighting in the parking lots, cafeteria, and agricultural sciences areas.

Milano ISD is also positively impacting the environment with the move to LED lighting.   The environmental equivalent over the LED system’s useful life is equal to NOT emitting 5,130,177 pounds of CO2 emissions, or equal to NOT driving 8,791,642 miles in a car.

The project was completed by Aquila Environmental (“Aquila”), a Fort Worth based Lighting as a service company that exclusively focuses on LED energy saving projects for K-12 entities in Texas and surrounding states. To that end, Aquila has executed identical projects for 40+ school districts in Texas over the past 3 years. Aquila is a values based and purpose driven company that believes we are in the midst of a long term shift in rising energy costs and K-12 buildings being overutilized.  Aquila’s project delivery typically eliminates lighting maintenance for 20+ years and instantly shaves 20-22 percent from a school’s electricity costs.

Milano ISD completed their recent lighting project to convert the entire district to LED lights creating a better learning environment for the students and staff, also saving the district over $22,000 in annual electricity costs.   Milano ISD is also helping the environment.   Completion of the project with Aquila Environmental has the environmental impact of NOT emitting 5,130,177 pounds of CO2 or equal to NOT driving the average US passenger car 8,791,642 miles!  Thank you to Milano ISD administration and Board of Trustees for moving in this bold step for energy conservation for our students, staff, and community
