Milam County Railroad Museum to reopen in November

Volunteers and staff at the Milam County Railroad Museum are ready to open on a limited schedule on Saturdays beginning Nov. 7.

The museum will be open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Visitors must wear masks and observe social distancing protocols. No more than eight visitors will be allowed in the museum at a time.

“If visitors work with us, we will begin opening on Tuesdays and Thursdays in December,” Museum Director Jamie Larson said. “It is important that we continue to help keep the spread of coronavirus down. We will be keeping the front door open as well as second floor windows to help with good ventilation and airflow.”

The museum has many new displays to enjoy.

John Johnson has also built more buildings.  They have been placed on the Old Town Cameron model. The Episcopal Church, which has been one of the most requested buildings local visitors have asked for can now be seen on the layout.

“We look forward to seeing old friends of the museum and creating new ones too,” said Larson. “Old Town Cameron has become one of the State’s must see displays for model railroaders, rail fans and railroad historians. The Museum’s Facebook page has over nine thousand friends from all around the world.”

Because of the coronavirus shut down, the museum halted the Alpine Ski Resort train layout ticket sales. The layout will be given away on Dec. 19. Ticket sales will begin again on Nov. 7. Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20. Please come by and purchase some tickets to support the Museum’s activities.
