Fire claims life of Cameron woman

A Cameron woman lost her life in a major house fire on Monday afternoon.

Cameron Volunteer Fire Department responded just after noon Monday to a major structure fire in the 800 block of East 15th Street in Cameron.

Crews arrived to find the two-story wooden home billowing heavy smoke. Dispatch indicated a resident was possibly inside the burning home.

After making entry, fire fighters found 61-year-old Sandy Terry inside and evacuated her.

According to CVFD Assistant Fire Chief John Mendoza, Terry was rushed to the hospital but later died.

As of this morning, the home is termed a total loss. There were also multiple calls for rekindles through the day. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

Fire Chief Henry Horelica was also taken to the hospital for heat exhaustion, but is home and doing well.
