COVID UPDATE: County records another death

Milam County has recorded another death due to COVID-19.

“Every time I report another death, I think, surely this is the last one,” Milam County Judge Steve Young said Monday night. “I thought that last week when I reported the 40th COVID-19 death in the county. But not so. Today, we have another death to report, bringing the death toll in Milam County to 41 since the pandemic began, almost one year ago. To make matters worse, we have a safe, effective vaccine that will stop all of this, if we can just get everyone vaccinated.”

He reminded everyone to wear a mask.

“Wearing a mask can be just as effective as the vaccine,” he said. “It will slow the spread of the virus and keep people alive. We are on the home stretch and even though we are all tired of talking about and doing about the virus, we must hang on. We must continue to take the safe course to keep our fellow man safe and healthy, because their health, directly affects your health.”

The county has 800 doses of the vaccine to administer this week. They received 200 doses from Williamson County and 600 doses from the state.

“We plan to run two large 400 dose clinics this Thursday and Friday at the former Rockdale Clinic, located at 1700 Brazos, Rockdale,” he said. “We will administer about 500 first round doses and 300 second round doses. By the end of the week we will have vaccinated almost 2,700 first round doses and 1,400 second round doses for a total of 4,100 shots. All this in just over two months!”

Download the consent forms, complete it and bring it to the clinic. This will save about 20 minutes.

If you bring a completed form to the clinic there is no need to arrive ahead of your scheduled time.

There are 2,401 people on the county’s waiting list.

“More drugs are coming and we will eventually get everyone in this county a shot,” Young said. “We can assure everyone that we do and will have enough vaccine for all second round shots.”
