Holidays Can Intensify Suicide Risks, Experts Warn
For many people, the holidays bring celebration, connection and tradition. But for others, the season can heighten loneliness, grief and emotional strain. Mental health professionals say the weeks surrounding the holidays often intensify feelings of hopelessness, even though national data shows suicide rates themselves do not spike during the season. According to the Annenberg Public Policy Center, suicide rates remain relatively stable through the holidays, but suicidal thoughts and ideation rise sharply as stress, isolation and grief become more pronounced.
