Dear Editor of The Cameron Herald,

The Milam County Commissioners Court recently made a deal with a realtor to find property to build a new jail. I was Chairman of the committee to build the present jail and I stayed with the process until completion. We designed the jail with all of the infrastructure necessary to be able at some time to double the inmate capacity at that location. Why is the court looking to build a new jail?? If the court will have money buming a hole in its pocket, why not give it to the taxpayers in property tax relief and/or pay for the ambulance service and take that burden off its citizens. Decreasing the tax rate a little when property taxes increase dramatically doesn’t cut it for taxpayers.
