Matthew Charles “Matt” Lehmkuhl

While away in Shreveport, Louisiana for a few days with his wife and friends, Matthew Charles “Matt” Lehmkuhl, age 40, passed away suddenly at the University Health Center on Sunday, Aug.6, 2017.

Services for Matt are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 11, 2017, at the Milam County Cowboy Church in Rockdale. Burial will be at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Minerva. Rev. Jack Chelf, retired, and Rev. Matt Higginbotham of First Baptist Church in Rockdale will officiate. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 10, 2017, at the funeral home.

Matt was born on Sept. 12, 1976, in Normal, Ill., to Charles Alvin Lehmkuhl and Judy Ann (Durflinger) Lehmkuhl. He lived most of his life in Rockdale. On June 21, 1997, he married his high school sweetheart, Michelle Burrough, in the Meadowbrook Baptist Church in Rockdale.

At the time of his passing, Matt was a member of First Baptist Church of Rockdale. Matt and Michelle were blessed with two children, Tyler and Hannah. Matt enjoyed coaching his children and their many friends in the Rockdale Youth Baseball league and the Rockdale Girls Softball league. Matt served the Rockdale community for many years, and was an avid supporter of many Rockdale activities, especially Tiger athletics. He was a former president of the Rockdale Booster Club and was continuing his service to the Booster Club as vice president. Matt worked for Perry & Perry Builders for 17 years as General Superintendent. He was a past member of the Building Standards Commission for the City of Rockdale.

He was preceded in death by his father, Chuck Lehmkuhl, on Dec. 19, 1995; maternal grandparents, Gleason “Red” and Grace Louise (Nice) Durflinger; paternal grandparents, Elmer Leroy and Marian Lucille (Thomas) Lehmkuhl; and grandparents, Wallace and Ruth Shelander.

Surviving are his wife, Michelle Renae Lehmkuhl; son, Tyler Matthew Lehmkuhl; daughter, Hannah Grace Lehmkuhl, all of Rockdale. Also surviving are his mother, Judy Shelander and husband Wesley of Rockdale; father- and mother-in-law, Mike and Deborah Burrough of Rockdale; his brothers, Micah Lehmkuhl of Spring, Daniel Lehmkuhl and wife Carolyn of Waco, Lance Burrough and wife Jennifer of Fort Worth, and Jesse Shelander and wife Krystal of Rockdale; sister, Valerie Shelander of Rockdale; and his beloved nieces and nephews, Reagan Lehmkuhl, Emma, Andrew and Isaac Lehmkuhl, Parker Burrough, Savannah Shelander, Christian Briggs, and Layla Barrera.

Serving as pallbearers are Doug Calame, Charles Bland, Jeff Pickel, Lin Perry, Jeff Miller, Jeff King, Brad Caffey, Chuck McDaniel and Ryan Long.

Honorary pallbearers are Micah Lehmkuhl, Daniel Lehmkuhl and Lance Burrough.
