Lady Yoe show improvement, but drop two more district contests

The start of district 20-3A play has not gone quite the way the Lady Yoe would have liked.  Cameron had lost both of their matches to Rogers and Jarrell and were winless headed into the second week of district action.

Though it was not necessarily a win, Coach Kamol Nohe and the Lady Yoe (0-3) did take a set off of Lexington (3-0) in Friday’s 3-1 loss.

Battling heavy adversity after falling in the opening two sets (13-25, 19-25), Cameron dug deep to grind out a 25-22 victory in set number three.  Lexington went on to take set number four (14-25) and the match.

Savannah Kruse continues to lead the Cameron offensive attack, this time totalling six kills.  Darci Deni had 11 of the Lady Yoe’s 16 assists.

Marly Spink (4), Daiya Braziel (2) and Kenize Wimmer (2) were other top attackers for Cameron.

Jazmin Vaculin had 15 digs while Denio and Wimmer had seven each.  Gracen Dach did have two aces from the service line.

Elsewhere in the district, Rogers (3-0) took down Franklin (2-1) in five sets, Academy (3-0) swept Hearne (0-3), and Jarrell (3-0) got by Rockdale (0-3) in four.

Cameron sought to pick up their first district win on Tuesday as rival Rockdale came to Yoe Gym.  Rockdale, like Cameron, had yet to win a district game as both squads sat at 0-3.

The Lady Tigers came out and grabbed the early edge with a 4-0 start in the first set.

Braziel gave the ladies a lift, spiking home a kill in the middle of the Rockdale defense to cut the lead to 9-4.  Kruse, Dach and Braziel would post back-to-back-to-back kills to cut the lead to 13-8.  Rockdale would take charge from that point, winning the opener, 25-14.

The start of the second was much more competitive as the two Milam County foes were tied 3-3.

However, Rockdale would go on a 4-0 run to push the lead to 7-3.  Dach and Braziel would team up to block a Lady Tigers kill attempt to close the gap to 10-8 and change momentum.  Tied at 12-12, a Denio service attempt could not be returned and it gave the ladies their first lead in the match.
