Movie in the park June 23

Also approved by the city council last week were two upcoming events sponsored by the Cameron Chamber of Commerce, presented at the meeting by President Daniel Willie.

The council approved the chamber’s plans to host a free Kids Movie Night at Cameron City Park on Thursday, June 23. The movie “Sandlot” will be shown on a screen set up near the historic gazebo in City Park.

Show time is 8:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to bring blankets, lawn chairs and coolers with snacks and sodas.

Free hot dogs and popcorn will be served as long as supplies last.

Fireworks display July 3

Working with the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce, Willie said the chamber is also hosting a fireworks display, approved by the council to be held at Wilson-Ledbetter Park on Sunday evening, July 3.

In the future, the events will rotate between Cameron and Rockdale.

Beginning about 7 p.m., games for kids and other activities are planned around the American Legion Hut at the park, where Legion members will be grilling hot dogs, Willie said.

At dark, about 8:30 p.m., the fireworks display will begin. Willie noted that organizers are working with the Cameron Fire Department on safety measures and assured the council the display will be done by professionals in the field.

“It will be a top-notch show,” he said.
