The Lady Yoe volleyball team dropped a heartbreaker at Yoe Gym on Tuesday night to the Jarrell Cougars in a district match-up in five games. The loss moves the Lady Yoe to an even 3-3 district record and the middle of a packed playoff race.

The Lady Yoe came out firing on all cylinders and quickly dismissed the Lady Cougars in the first two games 25-22 and 25-13, however in the third game, the Lady Yoe had to play catch-up and were defeated 26-24. The fourth match was a high energy affair which saw each team have leads in this see-saw battle, but ultimately the Lady Cougars would prevail with a 25-22 win to set up a 5th and deciding match. In the finale, the teams traded points, but all the bounces fell Jarrell’s way and they went home as victors with a 15-12 win.

The Lady Yoe played with a lot of heart and battled back, but came up short in the end. Head Coach Linda Richter says her young team continues to impress and improve with each game.

The Lady Yoe recently took a pair of district wins over Rosebud-Lott and Florence and was defeated last Friday on the road in Rogers in five games. In the Rogers match, the Lady Yoe came out slugging and playing well recording kill shots from Shantacious Dohnalik, Kausion Wells, and Jayci Rhoades. Serving proved to be the ladies' downfall as they recorded 15 missed serves on the night, six in the first game alone.

The Lady Yoe once again showed the pride and resilience after losing the first two matches and winning the next two to set up the 5th match.

“Coming into the season, I thought hitting would be our question mark because we graduated three of four hitters and moved our fourth hitter from the middle to outside, so we are starting four new hitters," Coach Richter said. "But serving has proved to be our weak point all season. We address it everyday in practice and hopefully our serving percentage will improve and give us a shot at the playoffs.”

The Lady Yoe will finish out the first round of district action on Friday at Yoe Gym when they host the Lady Eagles from Salado. In sub-varsity action, the freshman team is currently 5-1 and tied for first place and the JV squad is also 5-1 and alone in first place in district.
