CALISSA FLEMING

Calissa Fleming, 90, of Cameron, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Legacy Nursing and Rehabilitation. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 2025, at Marek-Burns- Laywell Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will take place that same day from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the funeral home. Calissa was born on November 18, 1934, in Milam County to John and Lola Lee (Baskin) Brasher.

She married Gwenneth D. Fleming on September 6, 1952, and they shared many years together before his untimely passing in 1991. She was also preceded in death by her son, Cecil Fleming, in 1974. She is survived by:· Sons: Richard Fleming and wife Pam of Temple, & Kirby Fleming and wife Nora of Gause · Daughter: Demiria “Sissy” McDermott-Wallace and husband Crawford of Cameron · Sister: Deidre Watkins and husband Jim of Lewiston, Idaho · Ten grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, and one great-great- grandchild A proud graduate of Cameron Yoe High School, Calissa went on to build a long and fulfilling career as a secretary and bookkeeper, holding positions at organizations such as NASA and Beechcraft.

After many years living and raising her family in Pasadena, Texas, she returned to Cameron and continued working at Ben Milam Savings and Loan and later at Citizens National Bank. Her banking career spanned over 36 years and left a lasting impact on the community.

Many came into the bank just to chat with her— drawn in by her vibrant personality, radiant smile, and kind heart. Though the COVID-19 pandemic eventually led her to retire, her legacy of warmth and connection endured.

In her later years, Calissa became a beloved member of the nursing home community, cherished by staff and residents alike. She deeply loved her family, especially her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren, and was known for her joyful spirit and love of bright colors.

Calissa Fleming touched many lives and will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Arrangements are under the direction of Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home.
