Cameron man killed in Fort Hood shooting A Cameron man was among the 13 fatalities from yesterday's shooting at Fort Hood. Mike Cahill, who worked as a physician's assistant for Dr. Sid Richardson from 1997 until January 2001, and who stilled lived in Cameron, was killed during the Thursday afternoon incident. The alleged shooter, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, is blamed for the deaths of 13 soldiers and one civilian, military officials said. Another 30 people were wounded in the incident. About half of them required surgery, and all were in stable condition Friday morning, said Col. Steven Braverman, hospital commander at Fort Hood. Cahill worked at Fort Hood as a civilian contractor. The shootings took place in a base military processing center, where soldiers receive dental and physical exams prior to deployment. Richardson remembered Cahill as a dependable health-care provider. "He had built up a good practice while here," he said. "He was well liked and dedicated to good patient care." Details about the shooting and Cahill will be published online as they are released, and will appear and in Thursday's print and online editions of The Cameron Herald.
