City sets tax rate hearings The Cameron City Council proposes to keep the same city tax rate as last year; however, some taxpayers may have higher taxes due to increases in property values. Following two budget sessions, the council voted Monday night to keep the same total tax rate as last year - 68.4090 cents per $100 property value. According to the city's published statement inside today's issue of The Cameron Herald, the average taxable value of a residence homestead has increased, meaning that the same tax rate will bring in more revenue. The council set two public hearings on the proposed tax rate at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 8 and 5:30 p.m. Sept. 15. Both hearings will be held in the council meeting room at Cameron City Hall.
