Ex-students staying busy in community activities By Charlene Olbrich, Thorndale Ex-Students Association Our exes were pretty active this week. Always glad to hear from and to see so many. That's what our organization is all about - - staying in touch. And we are thankful that there were no deaths that we know of to report. We received a letter from James W. Hengst, Class of 1955 with his new address in Charlotte, North Carolina. He also sent along his e-mail address. We really appreciate him sending these changes along to us. Mr. Jerry Hill, our printer, stopped by and picked up our sample Homecoming invitation, lunch ticket and envelope for printing. We do a lot of work on these things before our SSS night on August 23. Mr. HIll is so very nice and accommodating. He picks up our samples from our home and then delivers the finished product. We really appreciate him and his great job on our printing work. Received a short e-mail from Charles Wuensche, Class of 1959 and his wife, Louise, with a new e-mail address. This is the second change in recent weeks. Said they had been tinkering with Internet providers and thinks this one will be it for a while. We appreciate being notified of all changes. There was a real nice colored photo in the newspaper of Melba Stewart Caffey, Class of 1957 presenting the Yard of the Month. And the colors in the yard were beautiful. Haven't the bluebonnets, Indian paint brushes and buttercups been just beautiful this year. We hear that exes mom, Dorothy Palm, is doing well after hip surgery. That's so good to hear and we wish her a hearty “Get Well”. Garet Ging, Clas of 2006 was on the Dean's Honor Roll for the Fall semester at Texas State Technical College in Waco. This means he had a grade point average of 3.5 to 3.9 for the semester. Our congratulations to Garet. We want to welcome Mary Frances Hyde Towery, Class of 1954 and her husband, Glen, to Thorndale. They bought the home of A. J. Lehman, Class of 1935 who passed away March 3, 2006. It's always so nice to have our exes move back home. There was a nice wedding photo of Candace Michelle Waiser, Class of 2001 and new husband, teacher and coach, Kelly Wayne Kuhl who married December 30, 2006. Our congratulations to them. And now do we need a new address?? We received a nice, long letter from Charles Moerbe, Class of 1955 of Dripping Springs. He says he never misses our article and enjoys each one. Love to hear that. Did you know he owns 50% of the Brushy Creek Bar and BBQ here in Thorndale? Charles always comes to our Homecoming activities. He even invited any of our exes interested to go on some of his foreign treks. Never did hear if anyone took him up on the great offers or not. He's been to 101 foreign countries to date. Isn't that something! He doesn't do the wild mountain climbing any more as he grows older. Says he's now satisfied to just lean up against the mountain. A while back, he sent a couple of photos to the Champion, but we never saw them. I think one was of him riding a Yak in Nepal. We had some really fun times with Charles back in our days right after graduation. Our thanks to Charles for the very interesting letter and we always look forward to seeing him at Homecoming. There was such a cute photo of Janet Woelfel Moss, Class of 1975 when she was a toddler, celebrating her 50th birthday. It was lovingly wishing her a Happy Birthday from her family. We wish her one, too. We can be found on the web at www.thorndale.txed.net. There is a wealth of information on this website including our weekly news articles, list of advisory committee member with their phone numbers and all the school information. If you haven't looked at it, do so and you will be surprised. You can e-mail locojo@totalaccess.net. You can phone us at 512-898-2072 or write to Thorndale Ex-Students Assn., P. O. Box 393, Thorndale, TX 76577. We love to hear from our exes.
